I'v had an unforgettable experience in life during the World Twenty 20 2012 during August of this year 2012. It was truly an unexpected opportunity of life time, the accreditation to cover one of largest sporting event of the world as a International Cricket council's accredited Cricket journalist.
The applications for the opportunity was rejected soon after the process and it was a heart breaking situation for the whole crew. However it was fixed at last moment to open wings to take part in event.
Specialty of opportunity.
ICC World Twenty 20 hosting once in two years while ICC World cup hosts once in four years in different parts of the world. This is the first time Sri Lanka privileged to host a Full ICC event in the country at 4 different venues (Practice venues are not mentioned in these 4 venues). Sri Lanka privileged to host two other world cups prior to this WT20 in 1996 and in 2011, but none of those fully hosted in Sri Lanka. Also the occasion count as the final opportunity to host a ICC event in Sri Lanka for next 10 to 12 years.
in 1996 Sri Lanka privileged to host 4 matches in Sir Lanka, unfortunately Australia and West Indies refused to visit Sri Lanka due to security problems. (Sri Lanka faced a war during the period and explosions reported island wide) However Zimbabwe and Kenya matches were successfully happened in Colombo and Kandy. (Sri Lanka were able to form a world record against Kenya (396 and later Australia and South Africa broken the record till Sri Lanka reform the record against Netherlands)
In 2011 Sri Lanka privileged to host 11 matches including a semi final here in Sri Lanka.
12 Men's and 8 Woman's teams joinned 2012 edition of World T20 party here in Sri Lanka. Men's matches held in Hambantota, Colombo and Kandy and Woman's group stage encounters happened in Galle international cricket stadium.
Hall of Fame
One of unforgettable night which was spent front of world most renowned cricketers and legends. Brian Lara and Enid Bakewell of England womans cricket inducted to ICC hall of fame. West Indies team participated in the event along with few Irish cricketers.

20 Days to remember
The whole event hosted during 20 days from 18th of August to 7th of October. The World t20 started with the game between Sri Lanka versus Zimbabwe and finals played between Sri Lanka versus West indies.

The period can count as hectic period of all who participated in Journalism and in organizing committee, we were used to travel up and down towards Hambantota and Kandy. It was a fun trip and it released the pressure, stress and boredom. The 2nd game of Sri Lanka washed by rain in Hambantota and 3 days of spending in Hambantota gone waste with a 7 overs game lost. (The match reduced to 7 over match and Sri Lanka lost at death rubber game)

Womans in action in Galle
The match between Sri Lanka woman's and South Africal womans was the curtain raiser of Womans World T20 campaign, however Sri Lanka womans disappointed spectators with careless performances throughout the series and failed to qualify next WT20 in 2014 by defeating against India at play offs.
Super 8's, Semi Finals turned into a decider.
End of Super 8 match Semi finals decided finalists Sri Lanka and West Indies into Finals of WT20. During Super 8's we were used to travel up and down to Kandy and Colombo to cover all super 8 matches which were scheduled to host in both venues.
West Indies beat Australia at a Sixes raining party night and Sri Lanka played beat Pakistan at low scoring game to win hot seats in Finals.

Australia womans beat English womans to win the consecutive world champions title and Windies crashed Sri Lankans party to win the title after a 33 years break. Another disappointing day for Sri Lanka cricket 4th World cup final lost.
