Majority mistaken Queens Baton relay of Commonwealth Games as another torch relay, Coz the Baton holding by runners vertically to symbolize the Olympic Torch.
The baton contains the Queen's hand-written message to the Commonwealth and will visit all 70 competing nations and territories over the next 288 days this year. The first baton bearer this years relay was Alan Wells, the Scottish sprinter who won gold in the men's 100m at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.
The Queen entrusts the baton to the first relay runner. At the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the final relay runner hands the baton back to the Queen or her representative, who reads the message aloud to officially open the Games.
However, I decided to seek clarifications from "Queens Baton Relay" committee.
Me:
Many people mistaken this as the torch of Commonwealth Games.. Is this a torch ?
Can someone use it as a torch ? Is this the one use to light Commonwealth Games flame?
I asked those questions for a proper clarification..
Queens Baton Relay committee agent "Rebecca Lee" replied:
Its ridiculous to here. This is not a torch, This is a baton which is very similar to the one using for relay racing.
This is the clarification of the Queens Baton....
I didnt see a flame in it and a place to light....
Its holding like Olympic torch symbolically

History : The Relay was introduced at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales. Up until, and including, the 1994 Games, the Relay only went through England and the host nation. The Relay for the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was the first to travel to other nations of the Commonwealth. The 2002 Commonwealth Games Relay covered over 100,000 kilometres and went through 23 nations.
How this year Baton made: The baton's handle is made of elm wood sourced from the grounds of Garrison House on the Isle of Cumbrae and was constructed using a boatbuilding technique called bird-mouthing, which means it is light, strong and durable.
The top of the baton contains a granite "gemstone" which will be detached by opening a puzzle mechanism and given as gift to each nation and territory.
The gems are made of water-resistant granite unique to Scotland and were sourced from Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde.
